Window Security Films

Window protective films come in a variety of types designed for different purposes including solar films, safety films, security films and decorative films. Installing a window film provides multiple benefits including enhancing the look of home or office, improving home safety and security as well as improving the energy efficiency of your home.

Window security films are basically a clear or tinted film that is stuck onto the glass providing additional breakage protection to the window. Safety/security window films are designed to help hold glass fragments in place after glass breaks and can also provide energy efficiency benefits, can reduce glare and increase privacy. Window security films are not really designed to stop the glass breaking, but to minimize the incidence of glass fragments flying around. This can be very important in areas that may be affected by hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquake.

If the glass takes repeated impacts to the same area, window security films can begin to tear due to the edges of the broken glass fragments penetrating the thickness of the film. This means that, in general, although security films can help greatly by reducing glass hazards upon initial impact, with repeated impacts they may not continue to perform as well. Thicker window security films and films made from multiple layers (laminated films) perform better, in general, in situations where there will be repeated impacts to the glass, even after breakage has occurred.

Window films are made using thin polyester sheets. These window films can be installed by sticking onto the inward facing side of window thereby enhancing the visual appearance of the window and minimizing heat and glare transmission to the inside of the home or building.
