Burglar Alarm Systems
The installation of a burglar alarm system is a great security measure for your home or business. Burglar alarms are designed to interrupt an intruder and alert people nearby or a connected security company to any suspicious activity.
Burglar alarms usually consist or a combination of the following:
• Movement detectors (ultrasonic, microwave infra-red) that react to movement and/or heat and can be placed in strategic locations around your home or business.
• Magnetic Reed Switches which are electro-mechanical devices that activate when the electronic circuit is broken.
• Duress or panic assistance in the form of a fixed button, coded pad pin alert, or a portable device connected to an alarm.
Burglar alarms can be monitored and be either audible or silent and can also be connected to a strobe light to indicate an alarm activation. The cheapest is not always the best and remember there can be ongoing costs depending on your requirements.
When purchasing a burglar alarm system be sure to obtain several itemized quotes from different suppliers/installers and ensure the alarm system has a battery back up. You also need to be aware of what causes false alarm activations and take action to reduce this. Our security alarms page has further information on alarms and minimizing false alarms.
